Join the Friends Of Headrest, Monday September 3rd from 10 to 2 for the 2012 Labor Day Rail Trail Ramble!
This very special Annual Event is back and you can join in the fun for a great upper valley cause!
What is the Rail Trail Ramble? It’s a family and community event where you can walk, run, or cycle along the Northern Rail Trail at your own pace, then enjoy a BBQ at Colburn Park (i.e. The Green) in Lebanon, NH. The course follows an 8 mile leg of the Northern Rail Trail that starts in Lebanon, NH (just across from the CCBA) and passes trestle bridges, rock cliffs, and lake views on its way to Enfield, NH. For the first 50 people who get to Enfield, we give them pie! We’ve seen runners, cyclists and even the occasional very fast walker get all the way out there.
How long is it to the turnaround point in Enfield? 8 miles. (And you get pie when you get there!)
Is there a specific start time? Our course opens at 10AM and you can come start your ramble at any time between 10AM and 1PM. If your goal is to get all the way to Enfield, we suggest starting closer to 10AM. Keep in mind: you’ll also want to get back to Colburn Park in time for the BBQ, which takes place between 12PM and 2PM. We supply water along the course until 1PM only, after which our support stops on the trail will close down.
Where can I register? Online? Day of? There are two ways to register. (1) You can click here to register, which gives you a discount and makes it easier for you to simply walk up to our registration table and get out on the course without having to handle money when you get to the event. (2) You can register on the day of the event at the Spencer Street Rail Trail trailhead, located across from the CCBA.
Will there be water provided on the course? There are water stops every 1-4 miles. They are maintained from 10AM-1PM. If it’s a hot day, we do recommend carrying extra water with you. There will be no water on the course after 1PM.
What’s the deal with the ‘pie in Enfield’? Our roots were in a movement we called ‘Pedal for Pie’, which rewarded folks for biking 8 miles from Lebanon to Enfield with pie. We still give folks pie – it’s a great break and super-duper-tasty.
What’s the difference between pie in Enfield and the BBQ on the green? The BBQ is for absolutely everyone who attends the Rail Trail Ramble – ramble a bit then head over to Colburn Park for a bite to eat! The BBQ starts at noon and wraps up around 2PM. The pie in Enfield only goes to the first 50 folks who follow the rail trail all the way to Enfield while the course is open (i.e. between 10AM and 1PM).
I am a runner; is this a good event for me? The RTR is a great event for runners because it’s one of those rare events where you can have a goal of any distance without racing against a clock. It’s a beautiful run with great views and features, and you’ll get water support along the way too (and even snacks – if you can keep them down!). Just be aware: that water support is only there until 1PM when our support of the course shuts down.
having to handle moneywhen you get to the event. Online registration is open until 9pm on September 2 – 900 PM.

On August 14th, a tribute album to Fleetwood Mac titled Just Tell Me That You Want Me will be released through Hear Music/Concord. The album boasts artists such as The Kills, Best Coast, MGMT, and more.
The Kills, who covered the classic song, “Dreams,” were recently interviewed about the upcoming tribute album on Nowness.com.
When asked if she remembers the first time she heard “Dreams,” singer Allison Mosshart replied with a frank, “Nope. I guess it’s just one of those songs that you always hear.”
Guitarist Jamie Hince, however, gave a little more background as to why they chose “Dreams,” which stems back to the first time he heard the song.
“The song we were going to do was an old Peter Green song called “Man of the World,” recalls Hince. “It’s so beautiful, but the problem is that Green is a bit like Syd Barrett—he has a tender heart and a fragile brain. The song sounds absolutely perfect but if you try and cover it, you’re just playing a melody really. The whole sound of it comes from the heart and the head, and the fact he was falling apart. So I started listening to loads of Fleetwood Mac songs and realized that there were big songs that no one had chosen. The first time I remember hearing “Dreams” was a really terrible cover by The Corrs. I thought, ‘I want to reclaim it.’”
Although the album isn’t due until late summer, Hear Music/Concord has already let fans listen to several tracks from the record, including The Kills simplistic, bare bones rendition of “Dreams.” Take a listen below.
After a two year hiatus, The Killers are set to release a new album, Battle Born, in September of this year. 99Rock world premiered the first single off the new record, “Runaways,” on the 7 O’Clock Cage Match with Heath Cole, and the 3 O’Clock Rock Block with Geanette Foster ’14! Keep It Locked to 99Rock as “Runaways” are now added to the 99ROCK WFRD-FM playlist
