99ROCK MUSIC NEWS: Black Keys Sue Pizza Hut And Home Depot Over Song Use

The duo known the rock world over as The Black Keys have thrown down the gauntlet over alleged unauthorized use of their music. According to Bloomberg, the band dropped legal docs on Pizza Hut parent company Yum Brands as well as The Home Depot.

Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney site the companies’ use of their music without consent. In papers recently filed with the County Of Los Angeles, the group says Home Depot used their smash hit “Lonely Boy” in a commercial for Ryobi power tools while Pizza Hut and its ad agency, Interpublic Group, were sited for illegal use of “Gold on the Ceiling” in an ad for Cheesy Bites Pizza.

Brian Burton aka Danger Mouse has also jumped on the suit, as he has co-writing credit and would likely be due a portion of any damages.

How is it possible that two enormous companies could overlook permission on two songs from El Camino, an album selling just south of a million units? It boggles the mind.
